An LLM or "Master of Laws," is an advanced degree in law. To be eligible to apply for an LLM program, you need to have already completed a first degree in law, such as an LLB, a Licenciado, etc. Our innovative Cross-Border Legal Studies LLM program, one of the first of its kind in the United States, recognizes the increasingly global nature of legal practice and the need for skilled attorneys to guide clients through their cross-border interactions.

The justice discipline represents a melding of theoretical and applied concepts, and the M.A. degree in justice administration reflects that dichotomy. Consequently, students explore theoretical models associated with different aspects of the criminal justice system, but also study the structure and administration of the criminal justice system.

The M.A. degree in justice administration has been designed as a web-based degree program in order to accommodate the needs of justice professionals for whom taking a two-year leave of absence from their profession is not feasible, or for whom relocating to the Fairbanks vicinity is not possible. The M.A. degree program has attracted justice professionals from throughout the country who have found the flexibility of a web-based format useful.

The LL.M. in Global Legal Studies is for prospective students with a foreign law degree. This program, in addition to offering the usual career paths, also will prepare you to work with or across from U.S. counsel in a variety of transactions or disputes.

The program allows students to build a course of study uniquely tailored to their interests and goals by pursuing a general track of study. Additionally, the program offers specialization in oil and gas law; corporate and commercial law; public law; and in legal analysis, writing and advocacy. You will work with the faculty program director to select courses consistent with your individual interests and objectives. You will take classes alongside students enrolled in the J.D. program and develop lasting relationships with future American lawyers. LL.M. students must earn a minimum of 24 credits in order to graduate. At least 12 credit hours will be comprised of electives.

Terrorism, new technologies, and increasingly sophisticated international crime organizations have led to dramatic changes in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership. Some of these changes include:

The master's degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management is intended for criminal justice professionals currently working in mid-management positions or those seeking career advancement in the field of criminal justice. The degree caters to professionals whose jobs and family commitments prevent them from returning to campus as full-time students. The program allows working professionals to continue the pursuit of their career in criminal justice while completing their degree in two years.

The Masters of Science in Justice Studies is an interdisciplinary partnership between multiple departments, schools, and colleges at Missouri Southern State University designed to allow students, from all disciplinary backgrounds, the opportunity to explore and gain a deeper understanding of the multiple facets of what we call “Justice.” Students in this program will synthesize advanced scholarly knowledge from diverse yet interrelated fields, critique historical and theoretical concepts related to the understanding and application of justice, and master disciplinary and interdisciplinary skills essential to both scholarly and professional settings.   

The Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) program is divided into two tracks: thesis and non-thesis. Students who intend to go on to a Ph.D. program or who want to be employed in a research capacity should take the Plan I (thesis) track. Students who are more likely to be employed in the criminal justice system might consider Plan II (non-thesis track).
