The Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice concentrates both on the problem of crime as a form of deviant behavior, and on the criminal justice and private security systems that deal with it. The program emphasizes a systems approach to criminal justice, stressing policy development and analysis, as well as the impact these policies have on the individuals and organizations charged with delivering justice in a fair and equitable manner. Broad in concept and scope, it encompasses such related disciplines as law, sociology, political science, psychology, criminology, and public administration.

The degree program offers two options for the culminating experience. 1) The thesis option is designed for students who intend to pursue graduate studies beyond the M.A. level and those students who have special research interests in the criminal justice system. 2) The comprehensive examination option is for those with administrative and management goals.

The program can serve a variety of student interests. It has been designed with a limited prerequisite requirement to enable students with baccalaureate degrees in related fields such as psychology, administration, anthropology, sociology or social sciences to enroll along with students with undergraduate degrees in criminal justice.

The Master of Science program in criminal justice is a practitioner-oriented and theoretically grounded course of advanced study that prepares students for professional advancement and/or advanced graduate work. It is intended for personnel working in the criminal justice system and related fields, as well as for students preparing for such careers.  To accommodate students with varying work schedules, all graduate coursework is offered on the main campus on a dual-track basis, whereby students have the option to attend each class at either 8:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. on the same day. Our courses are also available during our Summer sessions.

Distinguished faculty and students are deeply involved in all aspects of criminal justice, and work and conduct research in the areas of policing, corrections, the courts, law, international criminal justice, white collar crime, community justice, restorative justice, victimology, and constitutional and human rights. We are all fully committed to deepening our understanding of crime, criminal justice policy, and social justice and are actively involved in a full range of community outreach activities as well. Our program emphasizes inter-disciplinary and multi-method inquiries that make a very real difference to day-to-day and long-term policy and practice. Our faculty and students pursue research and engage in practices that explore a wide variety of critical issues in the New Jersey, the NJ-NY metropolitan area, and across the United States in the context of global criminal justice developments and issues.

The Master of Criminal Justice (MSCJ) degree is the professional degree for those seeking a career in criminal justice. The Georgia College MSCJ program develops the skills which prepare students to work in social services, judiciary and law, law enforcement, education and in private business. The 36-credit MSCJ program is offered in a convenient online format designed for the busy working professional. The program can be completed in four semesters of full-time study.

The Department of Sociology and Criminology offers a Master's of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The program provides training in fundamentals of the criminal justice system and criminological theory, as well as foundational training in research methods and statistics. students may tailor their programs to best fit their goals through their selected electives, curricula tracks, and choice of one of three completion options. At present, curricula tracks (comprised of six credit hours) include such areas as leaderships and management, criminal law, research methods and statistics, and geographic information systems (GIS). Students have the program completion options of preparing for and taking a comprehensive examination, completing an internship and accompanying paper, or completing a Master's thesis.
