The Data Analytics program helps develop the skills and knowledge to extract meaningful and useful information from any raw data. It is an interdisciplinary program that offers excellent career opportunities or opens the door to pursue graduate work in data science, computational science, business analytics, or healthcare analytics.

Data and information have infiltrated every facet of our lives. The successful development of solutions to leverage data and information for decision making purposes requires a myriad of skills and abilities including capabilities provided by information technology professionals to enable and support data analytics and applications in their respective organizations. In the Data Analytics, Technologies, and Applications (DATA) major, students will a) develop strong foundations in statistical and machine learning techniques, b) apply analytics approaches, techniques, and tools to solve problems, and c) evaluate such approaches, techniques, and tools for effective use.

The curriculum will enable you to master analytics competencies that are highly in demand, including linear algebra, statistics, database management and data science, and data applications such as SQL, Power BI, Python and R. You will learn how to access, clean and analyze data sets and use data ethically and responsibly. 

Computer labs are equipped with industry-standard software. Class size averages eight to 10 students. In Carlow’s Center for Statistics and Data Analytics, you can work on projects that help Pittsburgh-area nonprofits.

Students in the Data Science major will be able to apply computational, mathematical, and statistical thinking to data-rich problems in a wide variety of fields in a responsible and ethical manner. This includes the ability to manage, process, model, gain meaning and knowledge, and present data. Data Science is one of the fastest growing career sectors in Wisconsin and across the nation.

Analysts pull raw data to help their employers or clients make important decisions. They look at trends and identify various facts. An analyst might decide which products to develop, determine new markets to enter or which new and existing customers to target.

Demand for Data Analytics graduates is extremely high and expected to increase by 20% during the next several years. By pursuing this skillset, you can expand your value and distinguish yourself in the job market.

Our applied program provides you with the skills to transform big data into information for making informed, fact-based decisions. You will learn to gather, assess and process data using a wide range of analysis techniques and popular data analytic tools. In our capstone course, Data Analytics in Practice, you will apply the knowledge and skills you've gained to complete a real-world data project.

The minor in Data Analytics is intended to arm students from any college and major with the tools and skills needed to answer data-driven questions relevant to their field. To meet this goal, required courses will cover the five pillars of business analytics: Data Collection, Data Preparation, Data Modeling, Data Visualization and Analysis, and Reporting. Students will learn both theory and practice using cutting-edge software. Electives tailor to students from a variety of majors and allow students to build their own “concentration.”

There is significant and growing demand for data scientists in enterprises of all shapes and sizes. The supply of professionals who can work effectively with data at scale is limited. This demand is reflected in rapidly rising salaries for data engineers, data scientists, statisticians, and data analysts.

Winona State University has created the first undergraduate program in Data Science in the upper Midwest.

This degree program requires knowledge from statistics, computer science, and a domain-specific application area. This program was developed in consultation with several industry partners which ensures graduates will have the skills necessary to meet the rapidly growing demand for data scientists.

The BS in Computational Data Science develops strong interdisciplinary skills in mathematics, statistics, computer science, and big data processing. The program teaches how to create algorithms and write code and scripts to solve problems beyond the basic use of existing tools in support of an industrial, enterprise-level big data pipeline. The mix of competencies and experiences required for data science differs significantly from those developed in the individual degree programs in the four areas mentioned above. Students will gain real-world experience as a springboard to working in industry as a data scientist or to pursue a graduate degree.

Data Science is emerging as a new interdisciplinary field, exploiting both theory and experimentation in data analysis. Data Science is, in part, data management and computationally-intensive data analysis based on scientific computing methods. There has been a significant growth in the volume of scientific data from experiments and observations, large-scale simulations, and large networks of sensors. Incorporating vast amounts of data into scientific applications often relies on mathematics, computer science, and statistics techniques, which have become essential tools in computational and data sciences. Our Data Science and Statistics Option provides the mathematics and computer science foundation to professional development, as well as training in Probability and Statistics, Modeling and Simulations, Numerical methods, Data Mining, predictive Analytics, Database Applications and Management, basics of Experimental Design.
 

Data Science is a dynamic and rapidly changing field where new approaches, content and techniques for manipulating data are constantly being introduced. It uses tools from Computer Science and Statistics to analyze large amounts of raw data to discover patterns, relationships and insights, and inform decisions in multiple industries, domains and contexts. 

Both Arcadia University’s B.A. and B.S. programs in Data Science provide a solid foundation in the principles and practices of data science and prepare students for successful careers in the field. With its fewer number of mathematics and other required courses, the B.A. program provides the opportunity for students to add minors or even a second major in another field.  The more extensive B.S. program prepares students to pursue data science jobs in the industry as well as graduate studies in data science. Both programs include opportunities to select major electives from a number of disciplines where students can enhance their skills in the application of data science tools and techniques to a specific domain.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics (ACM) provides students with a new reason to major in mathematical sciences by emphasizing applied mathematics and mathematical modeling. Students will learn to apply mathematics to real world problems arising in various settings, as they master new mathematical techniques. ACM students will have the option to specialize in a desired field through emphases in Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or Scientific Computing. The Data Analytics emphasis will provide an interdisciplinary approach by collaborating with programs in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, and Data Analytics. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary for a broad array of employment opportunities in the growing and evolving field of Data Analytics, including those within corporations, service industries, government agencies, political organizations, consulting firms, nonprofit organizations, marketing and advertising agencies, and media companies.​

From cutting-edge scientific and technological research to the latest advances in medicine, science and computer science are central to many fields. Our Analytical Science degree program allows you to combine your interests in the biological, physical, and computer sciences to create an exciting and highly marketable degree.

Study science principles and practices and solve scientific problems using modern analytical and computational methods. Utilize your knowledge of these methods to study complex processes at the planetary, cellular, molecular, and atomic levels. Conduct real-world scientific and computational research with your professors, as early as your freshman year. Present research findings at local, regional, and national conferences. 

The Analytical Science program is very flexible, so you can build your degree your way! If desired, you can even earn a double major in science and computer science by completing as few as five additional classes.

The availability, collection and dissemination of data is at an all time high.  Computing power of unprecedented levels are allowing universities and companies the ability to research complex data sets to determine new, effective vaccines, analyze financial risk, create efficient supply chains, and teach a car to drive on its own.  These are just a tiny set of examples of the wonders one study using data science. 

The Data Science degree is highly interdisciplinary in nature, and may include course work and research with faculty in other areas on campus such as the STEM center, the College of Engineering and the College of Business and Information Technology.  

Data analytics is integral to many industries. That’s why our program is interdisciplinary in nature. You’ll explore the subject from multiple perspectives and learn from knowledgeable professors with expertise in a variety of areas.

Choose between four focus areas: geography, marketing, social media and health informatics. You’ll take courses in your focus area as well as in computer science, data science, statistics and other disciplines. You’ll also examine the ethical concerns surrounding the mining of public data by private and public organizations.

This new degree, which starts fall 2022, is a collaboration between the College of Business, Department of Information Systems and Computer Science and the College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Mathematics. The data science program provides essential knowledge in statistics, mathematics, and computer science building a solid foundation so graduates can apply their expertise, including skills in programming, algorithms, data mining, and machine learning, to interpret data providing meaningful information for industry and/or research. The rigorous training in this program prepares students to be data scientists in for-profit companies, government, and other organizations. Students will be ready for graduate study in data science or computer science as well. 

The University of Mount Union’s major in data science and analytics provides students with the in-demand expertise needed to obtain meaningful insights from vast quantities of complex data. 

The major is grounded in practical, hands-on training and is relevant for students with myriad interests; by working with real-world data and sector-specific case studies, students gain familiarity with diverse industries including healthcare, marketing, politics, sports analytics, and epidemiology. Motivated students can complement the major with a minor and/or second major in a wide variety of fields from the applied, health, natural, and/or social sciences. There is no prior knowledge in programming required to take the introductory course.

The program reflects the increased demand for data scientists across a variety of disciplines. According to LinkedIn’s 2021 Emerging Jobs Report, “data roles, specifically data scientist and data engineer roles, are increasing steadily.” The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the overall career growth in data related fields to be between 16-31% through 2028.

Glance at the headlines today, and it quickly becomes clear that businesses, non-profits, and governments all desperately need people who can wisely collect, interpret, and apply data. In Calvin's data science program, you'll learn to analyze and understand data—and put it to effective use in a business, scientific, or social setting.

Calvin is one of the first Christian institutions to offer a data science program. Here, you’ll take foundational classes in computer science, statistics, and mathematics. Then you’ll pair your analysis and critical-thinking skills with a subject area that fits your career goals—like biology, geography, business, economics, or political science.

The mathematics (MATH) program offers preparation in the full spectrum of mathematical sciences, including algebra, geometry, differential equations, real and complex analysis, topology, logic, number theory, and probability and statistics, as well as various topics in applied mathematics. Mathematics majors begin with the study of calculus and linear algebra. After completion of these fundamental courses, students may choose to specialize. The department advises each prospective major on requirements and course options to meet his or her needs and interests. Departmental advisors are also available every day to all students.

Depending upon individual interest, students of mathematics may pursue careers in a variety of fields such as teaching, computer science, operations research, statistics, business, and economics. In addition, students who continue on to the graduate program may choose to become professors and/or research mathematicians. The faculty has the competence and resources required to provide the basic mathematical preparation required for any of these professions.

The rapidly expanding collection and use of data is driving transformations across broad segments of industry, science, and society. These changes have sparked great demand for individuals with skills in managing and analyzing complex data sets. Such skills are interdisciplinary, involving ideas typically associated with computing, information processing, mathematics, and statistics as well as the development of new methodologies spanning these fields. Our major in Data Science (offered jointly with the Department of Statistics and SCI) offers a program specifically geared to training students to participate in this data revolution.
