As an expressive arts therapy student at Lesley, you’ll train to become both a licensed mental health counselor and an expressive arts therapist whose therapeutic practice integrates principles of creativity, imagination, attunement, embodiment, performance, expression, and experience. You’ll learn from pioneers in the field, gain 1,150 hours of clinical experience, and graduate ready to guide individuals, groups, and communities toward wellness.

Engage others in music making as a means to mental health and wellness. As a music therapy student, explore therapeutic
 applications for music and the creative process, as well as counseling theories and techniques. Receive mentorship from world-recognized faculty and prepare for careers in hospitals, inpatient and outpatient care facilities, community centers, schools, private practice, and community organizations.

There’s a spirit of creativity that runs through everything you’ll do in Lesley’s music therapy program, whether it’s designing interventions for children in crisis or researching the latest studies on trauma. Our program is designed to promote an inclusive, critically informed atmosphere in which intellectual development, research, and collaboration with artists, performers, and scholars from diverse disciplines can thrive.

Develop the understanding, social justice perspective, and clinical expertise needed to become a creative and effective mental health counselor. Gain comprehensive training and eligibility for your counseling license by completing one or two internships for a total of 700 to 1,300 hours of field experience. Through coursework and supervised contact with clients, become versed in the ethical and professional guidelines for practice, and leave fully prepared to counsel individuals, families, and groups.

In our graduate clinical mental health counseling program, you’ll examine the human condition from multiple angles, from the physical and behavioral to the cultural and spiritual.
