History of National University California 

The National University California was established in 1971 by a former United States Navy Captain and director of employee training for General Dynamics Corporation, David Chigos. The university began with 27 students with an aim to meet the educational goals of working adults such as those in the military and other workforce. In 1975, the main campus was established in Mission Valley. 

The university earned the accreditation of the WASC Senior College and University Commission in 1977 and has been maintaining the distinction over the years.
