The business analytics and information systems (BAIS) major combines background study in business with more in-depth study of analytics and information systems including business analytics, business intelligence, programming for analytics, information systems theory, systems analysis, databases, cybersecurity, networking.

Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and directing organizations.

You can prepare for a management career by majoring in management, one of five business majors offered by Eastern Illinois University's School of Business. EIU's School of Business is student-centered and fosters relationship-driven learning between students and faculty. Management students in the School of Business can reach their potential through a variety of learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. All management and business classes are taught by faculty members — not graduate students — using collaborative and project-based learning as well as more traditional teaching methods. Management majors may choose to complete a concentration of courses in International or Human Resource Management.

Marketing is the area of business that provides products - goods, services, and ideas - to satisfy customer needs. Marketing professionals are responsible for determining what products a business will offer, communicating information about those products, pricing the products, and making the products available where and when customers want them.

The CIT Major will enable students to become highly marketable as technical professionals for applications of computer and information technology.

Pre-Engineering at Eastern Illinois University is a program designed to provide the first two years of a four-year Engineering degree. The first two years of most Engineering programs have the same curricula (basic science and math) so transferring from EIU to a 4 year Engineering program is generally a smooth transition.

EIU offers lower cost and a different atmosphere than the 4-year Engineering programs. The smaller class size, faculty teaching lecture and labs, research opportunities, and integrative learning environment set EIU apart from larger schools. The collegial atmosphere leads to a more inviting and collaborative learning environment. Students who might get lost in large lecture halls can quickly become a part of the community at EIU. With a high success rate after transfer to other institutions, our students find that this preparation is completely equivalent to spending all four years at a 4-year Engineering program.

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree emphasizes the study of industrial, production, and mechanical engineering technology principles to prepare graduates for engineering technology positions in industrial and laboratory settings.

The Engineering Technology program at EIU provides students with opportunities to apply engineering and effective technologies to make working designs, create solutions to complex problems, and be the technical communicator that workers, customers, and vendors demand. Engineering Technology students will design, develop, and create solutions through hands-on courses in automation, robotics, rapid prototyping, quality, safety engineering, machining, and production management.

• Engineering Technology graduates frequently start in roles as an engineer with a company.
• Hands-on labs, research, and development make Engineering Technology students valuable to prospective employers.
• Nationally recognized industry certifications that Engineering Technology students have the opportunity to earn during their coursework, improve graduates’ job opportunities and earnings.

This two-year program is administered by the Pre-Engineering Studies Committee. Students planning to enroll in pre-engineering are advised to include the following in their high school programs: mathematics?four or more units, including trigonometry; and Science?three or more units, including chemistry and physics. Students with deficient high school background should expect their graduation with an engineering degree to be delayed.

There are two pre-engineering options: general (appropriate for all except chemical engineering) and chemical. Students interested in the chemical engineering option should consult with the chairperson of the Pre-Engineering Studies Committee.

Biochemistry is at the interface of biology and chemistry, focusing on explaining living systems at the cellular and chemical level. The biochemistry major at Eastern is built upon and fosters strong student-faculty interactions through small classes and collaborative research opportunities as well as through substantial hands-on learning experiences using state-of-the art instruments, equipment, and software. Courses in the major are taught by a well-trained and dedicated cohort of PhD. faculty with a strong record of research. The faculty have high expectations for biochemistry majors and they are equally committed to their success. Effective communication is stressed throughout the curriculum in written lab reports as well as our seminar program, and a number of our majors present their research work at local, regional, or national meetings in the field.

Whether you are planning to pursue a graduate or professional degree, to teach, or to seek employment in the biochemical or related industries upon graduation, our programs are designed to help you achieve your goals. The BS biochemistry program is certified by the American Chemical Society, and provides students with needed skills for entry level biochemist positions in industry or government as well as prepare students for advanced study in chemistry, biochemistry, or related disciplines. It also serves as an excellent gateway to health professional schools (medical / physician's assistant, pharmacy, dental, veterinary, etc) after graduation. 

If you have a passion for understanding how cells and living organisms function and enjoy scientific experimentation and field or laboratory studies, then you should consider majoring in biology. Biology is the study of living organisms (bacteria, algae, protozoans, fungi, plants, and animals). It is a large discipline that encompasses molecules and cells, organs and organ systems, organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems.

 Biologists study cell and molecular biology, genetics and evolution, organismal biology, systematics and ecology, and behavior. The Department of Biological Sciences offers bachelor's and master's degrees in Biological Sciences. When students complete a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, they are prepared for exciting careers in the sciences and eligible for graduate study in master or doctoral programs or health-related fields (e.g., chiropractors, clinical laboratory scientists, dentists, nurses, optometrists, pharmacists, physical therapists, physicians, and veterinarians). • This program introduces students to all five classical subdisciplines of chemistry (analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical). This program provides students with needed skills for entry level chemist positions in industry or government and prepares students for advanced study in chemistry or related disciplines. This program can also serve as gateway to health professional schools (medical / physician's assistant, pharmacy, dental, veterinary, etc) after graduation.

• This program is unique in that it combines chemistry with a business-oriented curriculum. Students in this program complete undergraduate pre-requisite courses for the MBA program and do not take the full chemistry curriculum. This program competitively prepares students for careers related to sales, marketing, or management in chemical industries.

• This program offers the flexibility to be paired with existing pre-professional programs (e.g. pre-health) or minor programs (e.g. criminology, environmental sciences, pre-law, professional studies) in other disciplines, by reducing the number of required chemistry courses. This program also allows for students to complete a second major, and with careful planning, still within in 4 years.

In all those cases, EIU offers a clinically focused educational experience for students who want to work with individuals with communication disorders.

The profession is in high demand and EIU boasts a 100% placement rate for graduates of the program. Job possibilities are diverse and numerous, working with toddlers through adult-aged clients. Disorders include stuttering, swallowing, voice, language, hearing impairments, among many others.

The program at Eastern Illinois University allows you to shadow and work with clients as an undergraduate student under faculty supervision. The B.S. in Computer Science offers students additional opportunities to engage in the study of cryptography, artificial intelligence, and parallel programming. Our degree offers you the full world of computer science engaging you in understanding coding, design, and hardware.

Our program develops competent construction professionals by engaging students in the field, laboratory, and classroom using the following educational tools: Technology-driven Curricula: The course work incorporates the latest available software applications, BIM programs, animations, simulations, and virtual reality methods to effectively plan projects, communicate to project stakeholders, and analyze project performance. Value-added Learning: Students will learn to maximize the value of a design by understanding life-cycle costing techniques, sensor networks, and begin to understand the concept of intelligent building design. Business Emphasis: Principles of accounting, finance, risk minimization, and employee protection are emphasized so that the students will develop the best overall construction techniques for their project. Constructability: Students will learn from instructors experienced in the construction field. This lends practicality to the students’ training. The student will gain a working knowledge of these concepts to communicate with engineering subject experts as they develop their craft. Students will apply learning through a combination of interactive lecture/demonstration classes, graphic exercises and field exercises.

Gain a professional advantage for employment and advancements with a bachelor's degree in Health Promotion with Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness Option. This option is designed for undergraduates interested in pursuing careers as emergency management professionals.  Both an online and traditional face-to-face option are available.  

The Exercise Science major provides students with the scientific knowledge of the underlying principles related to human movement for health, physical fitness and physical performance through instruction and practical experience. Students receive instruction in the areas of exercise physiology, biomechanics and exercise psychology. Additional experience is gained through an internship placement in a fitness or clinical setting. Upon graduation, students are prepared for employment in areas such as hospitals and clinics for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, strength and conditioning programs, health clubs, fitness centers, personal training and corporate fitness, The program also prepares students who desire to pursue a graduate degree in the exercise sciences.

Our program is designed to provide each student with a strong, broad background in Geology with ample opportunities for student research and internships as well as individual mentoring. Our department houses state of the art equipment such as a fleet of drones, 3 D printer/digitizer, research grade stream table and an updated computer lab. Our faculty's research areas range from ore deposits on Mars (part of the NASA Rover program) to paleontology, basin evolution and more. Our personal attention to your future gives you an edge on the competition for scholarships, jobs and placement in graduate programs. Last, with the entire program only requiring 69 credit hours, this allow students the opportunity to pursue minors or double-majors to have the best possible undergraduate experience.

Our program, which results in a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (formerly BA in General Studies or BGS), is specifically designed to meet the educational goals of adults and non-traditional students in a format and structure compatible with adult responsibilities. We are exceptionally well-suited to serve the educational needs of adults who cannot access university coursework in a traditional manner.

Students of mathematics at Eastern enjoy an outstanding learning environment. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a large number of courses, taught in small classes (maximum class size is 35, with most much smaller), by an exceptionally caring, dedicated, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable faculty.

The department offers three challenging and rewarding undergraduate majors (as well as two graduate degrees). One of these, the B.A. in Mathematics, has traditionally prepared students for advanced degrees, both in mathematics and in other fields such as medicine, law, business, and science. Students who are preparing for careers in industry or government often choose this major. They combine selected mathematics courses with courses in business, data processing, economics, physics, or chemistry, for example, to provide the background for a wide range of careers.
