The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration requires completion of a lower-division core prior to taking most upper-division core courses. Successful completion of the lower-division core allows students to advance to the upper-division core that continues their general background in business and into their specialty option. Business administration offers options in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, management, marketing, and project management.

Students must receive a verified grade of C or higher in each lower-division core course in order to advance into most of the upper-division core and option courses. If a student receives a grade of C- or lower in one of the lower-division core courses, that course must be repeated until a grade of C or higher is attained. The set of lower-division and upper-division core courses are listed under Course Requirements for the Major.

The goal of the MBA program is to prepare its participants for challenging managerial positions in ever-changing international working environments. To accomplish this, the program provides its participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective managerial decision-making, the flexibility to pursue a general or moderately specialized business curriculum, and a basis for continued personal and professional growth. 

The Bachelor of Science in Concrete Industry Management is founded on a strong lower-division base of general education, math, science, and business courses. The upper-division courses allow students to develop the necessary technical knowledge in concrete materials and processes. At the same time, courses in logistics and information systems, finance, marketing, law, safety, quality, and project management prepare students to become effective leaders in the concrete industry.

Students who complete the CIMT program curriculum will also have fulfilled all the course requirements for the Minor in Business Administration.

The Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management offers several options that lead to varied careers depending on a student's interests.

The option in parks and recreation management. This option prepares students to work in park management, protected area management, natural resources, and outdoor recreation. This is the major for those who love the outdoors and want a career that celebrates and preserves nature.

Classes visit national, state, and local parks and natural areas for hands-on education and meet with professionals who manage our state's outdoor areas. In the classroom, students learn about stewarding the natural environment, supporting and understanding visitors, providing recreation opportunities, and collaborating with public and private partners. 

The degree plan also includes a strong foundation in management principles, including customer service, diversity and inclusion, marketing, and legal issues. Students cap off their studies with a 14-week internship, which many students turn into a full-time job. 
 
Our graduates work across the state and nation with agencies that manage public lands (such as the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service), state parks and forests, wildlife refuges, cultural and historical heritage sites, and local and regional park districts. 

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems is a combination of a traditional computer science degree and a traditional business information systems degree. Students complete the core of the computer science degree and the business administration minor. Students perform less software development than a computer science degree and are exposed to several additional topics.

The degree prepares students for a wide range of fulfilling careers from software development to managing the computing systems of large companies. All the giant tech companies (and hundreds of smaller companies) employ California State University, Chico computer science alumni. The program is designed so students without any programming experience can succeed and start a career at a premier tech company.

The Master of Science in Computer Science welcomes students from all undergraduate disciplines. The program is designed to accommodate students with and without a computer science background. Students without prior computer science coursework can take all required prerequisite courses after being admitted. The program provides a hands-on curriculum that prepares graduates to succeed in many aspects of the American software industry.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering bridges the curriculum gap between electrical/electronic engineering and computer science. The program is designed to provide a broad background in both the theory and practice of computer hardware and software design and their integration into usable digital systems. The curriculum includes courses in logic design, microprocessor system design, programming, algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, embedded system design and implementation, microelectronic circuits, and computer networking.

The Bachelor of Science in Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Robotics prepares graduates for a variety of careers in today’s modern manufacturing workplace. The faculty provide students with a broad undergraduate experience in math, science, business, and the humanities, as well as laboratory courses with a practical, applications orientation. The knowledge and skills gained will enable students to become Certified Manufacturing Technologists (CMfgT), after passing a comprehensive examination administered by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

With the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, graduates are well prepared for professional work or graduate school in a broad spectrum of engineering activities. The program is balanced, stressing environmental engineering; soil mechanics and foundations; structural analysis and design; surveying and mapping; transportation and traffic engineering; and water resources and hydraulics. The program emphasizes quality undergraduate teaching with most courses taught by tenure track faculty and active student learning, including extensive use of laboratories and co-curricular activities.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronic Engineering program are qualified for professional practice or graduate work in several areas of specialization, including system, electronics, and digital design. In addition to fundamentals of science and mathematics, the program provides a solid background in circuits, analog and digital electronics, microprocessors, and electromagnetics.  The senior-level classes offered for electrical/electronic engineers include control systems, communication systems, digital signal processing, electro-optics, and digital system design.

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program includes the study of mechanical design, thermal-fluid systems, applied mechanics, and automation. The mechanical engineering student is prepared in all of these areas to analyze and design complex mechanical systems. Graduates can specialize in areas such as energy conversion systems, mechanisms and machines, manufacturing, materials, automation and applied robotics through elective courses.

Mechatronic engineering is a new discipline that combines many of the skills of a mechanical engineer with those of a computer engineer and an electrical engineer. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Mechatronic Engineering program are prepared to design "intelligent" machines such as self-driving cars, automated warehouse systems, self-assembling machines and robots.

The Bachelor of Science in Animal Science prepares students for diverse careers involving all aspects of food animal agriculture. Careers in food animal production, support industries such as animal health and nutrition companies, and pre-professional preparation for graduate or professional school studies are all possible directions for students obtaining this degree.

Students interested in food animal pre-veterinary medicine should pursue this degree. The degree emphasizes science-based study of food animal production, including nutrition, health, reproduction, anatomy/physiology, genetics, and meat science.

In addition, management level courses in several food animal species are offered. Students get hands-on learning about food animals such as sheep, beef and dairy cattle, and pigs at the University Farm.

The Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences is designed for students who plan to use biology as a foundation for a career in pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, biomedical product management, regulatory positions, and especially in secondary school science teaching. For students who intend to become secondary school teachers, this degree offers the necessary preparation for earning a single subject credential.

This degree is appropriate for students pursuing single subject matter preparation in science with a concentration in biological sciences. This degree is also an excellent preparation for students considering biology-related interdisciplinary fields. Students who choose this program should consult with their major advisor.

Students who pursue the Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences choose one of three options. The option in cellular and molecular biology prepares students for professional programs, graduate studies in cellular and molecular biology, or entry-level positions in the biotechnology industry. The option ecological, evolutionary, and organismal biology prepares students for positions within environmental and resource management or graduate studies in ecology and evolutionary biology. The option plant biology prepares students for positions in habitat restoration, field botany, forestry or range management, agricultural biotechnology, or graduate studies in plant biology.

The Bachelor of Science in Microbiology offers two options, the option in general microbiology or clinical laboratory science. The general microbiology option is designed to prepare students for careers in biotechnology, environmental or industrial microbiology, pharmaceutical and biomedical research, or graduate studies. The clinical laboratory science option prepares students for an internship to become a clinical laboratory scientist or public health microbiologist.

Students may additionally consider completing a Master of Science in Biological Sciences with an Option in Botany. Upon completion, the Option in Botany will be included with the posted degree on the academic record and on the diploma.

This is a four-semester sequence of graduate level coursework that includes field, laboratory, and primary literature based courses. It differs from the Ecological, Evolutionary, and Organismal or Cellular and Molecular Biology emphasis that can be completed as part of the general MS in Biological Sciences, in that it requires at least 18 units of plant related courses at the 400 level or above.

The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry includes courses in all major chemical subdisciplines: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Substantial laboratory work, plus complementary courses in mathematics and physics, provide an excellent background for careers in a wide range of areas in science and academia, as well as preparation for professional schools, especially in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.

The Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry includes courses in all major chemical subdisciplines: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, plus complementary courses in mathematics and physics. With 10 fewer upper-division units than the BS in Chemistry, students have flexibility in their programs to take courses in other disciplines, including prerequisites for the credential program.

This degree is appropriate for students pursuing a teaching credential in science with a concentration in chemistry. This degree is also excellent preparation for students considering chemistry-related interdisciplinary fields.
