Bethany Lutheran College is a distinguished private liberal arts institution in Mankato, Minnesota, rooted in the Lutheran tradition. When the college was first founded in 1911, it was called Bethany Ladies College as it originally focused on educating young women. In 1927, it was acquired by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), becoming a co-educational institution until 1969, when the high school depatment closed. Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary started in 1946 and became a separate institution in 1975. The current President of the college since 2015 is Gene Pfeifer.Bethany Lutheran College has a diverse student body and fosters discussions among those with various religious backgrounds. The college shares beliefs with the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) and maintains a Bible-based approach, attracting students from multiple Christian denominations. Anderson Hall and Edgewood Place are designated for women, while Larson Hall (men/women as needed), Gulixson Hall, Teigen Hall, and other satellite housing units are for men. These halls offer room configurations that provide students with a convenient and supportive living environment. The college offers meal plan choices to ensure students receive nutritious meals throughout the academic year. The college provides guidance and support for students seeking off-campus housing that is available in the surrounding Mankato area.Bethany Lutheran College comprises 15 buildings, 5 of which are dedicated to class lectures. These academic buildings include Meyer Hall, Honsey Hall, Tweit Hall, the Sports and Fitness Centre, and the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Centre. The campus has state-of-the-art modern academic buildings, dormitories, and athletic facilities for all students. The college provides ample athletic opportunities, with approximately a third of the college’s students participating in varsity sports.Full-time students live on campus for the first two semesters as a requirement.
