Our MSc Environmental Data Science and Machine Learning will educate future environmental scientists in data science, machine learning and associated computational technologies.

This course will deepen your knowledge of cutting-edge data science, machine learning and associated computational and observational techniques, and you will learn to apply this to a broad range of environmentally motivated applications.

• a strong methodological background in mathematics or physical sciences and you're interested in moving to an applied field with an environmental slant or;
• an applied background in environmental science or engineering and you want to learn about data science and machine learning or;
• a background in computer science and you want to expand your knowledge of applied data science and machine learning in an environmental context, you're encouraged to apply.

The Environmental Data Science and Machine Learning MSc programme will teach you to apply data science and machine learning knowledge, and computational modelling and monitoring techniques, to a range of environmental science and engineering applications.

Data science and machine learning are revolutionising the study of subsurface geoscience and engineering.

If you’re a mathematician or a physical or computer scientist keen to apply your skills to this field, or you have a geoscience or engineering background and you want to learn data science and machine learning tools and approaches, this is the ideal course for you.

You’ll cover the fundamental processes and various applications of subsurface geoscience and engineering, while learning to apply data science, numerical methods and machine learning to problems in the sector.

There are opportunities to apply these concepts to real-world settings, which you’ll do on a geological field trip and to a technical problem you identify, for which you'll design and present your own computational or data science-based solution.

The course provides you with the opportunity to develop in-demand skills for a range of careers, from geoenergy, tech, computing and consultancy or go into further research.

Our MSc in Health Data Analytics and Machine Learning is a one-year full-time course aimed at building a solid and common background in analysing health data.

Your main objective is to develop skills in using appropriate cutting edge quantitative methods to fully exploit complex and high dimensional data.

The course is delivered in collaboration with the Data Science Institute, with teaching from both the School and Institute undertaken by international experts with strong methodological background and expertise in the application of these approaches to large-scale medical and clinical data. The programme features extensive project-based learning using real data sets and addressing real scientific questions through module-specific projects work, and individual research projects.
