The University of Worcester is situated in the city of Worcester, England, United Kingdom (UK) with its base in the regions of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It is a public research university established in 1946 as an emergency teacher training college for Birmingham University on the base of a former RAF site.In 1976, the college received validation for the degree for Worcester College of Higher Education by the National Academic Awards under, EG, Peirson. Following this, the Privy Council in the year 1997 declared the degree-awarding powers of the instiute, and it gained recognition as the University College of Worcester. Finally, in 2005, the council granted the status of the university, and it was renamed the University of Worcester. Infrastructure of the University of Worcester

The University of Worcester has three main campuses along with a Lakeside Campus. The three main ones are St John’s Campus, City Campus, and Severn Campus. 

Out of the three main campuses, the St John’s Campus is the first one. It is regarded as the primary base for all the departments, courses, and academic institutes. It is the largest campus and is situated in the St John’s area, Worcester. 

The City Campus is the second campus of the university and is a pleasant walk of 20 minutes from the St John’s Campus. The university’s award-winning library, The Hive, is situated on this campus. Along with that, the McClellan Health and Well-being Center and the Jenny Lind Building are also present in the City Campus. 

The Severn Campus includes the indoor sports arena of Britain, The University Athena. This campus is situated between the other two campuses. 

The Lakeside is an amazing center for outdoor learning and activities. It takes 10 minutes to drive out there from the main campus. 

The university has extremely enhanced state-of-the-art analytical laboratories and research facilities. They have Pollen and Aerobiology Research Group, Worcester Biomedical Research Group, and Sustainable Environments Research Group. Each group focuses on different research areas based on their topic. 

The university presents a comprehensive range of courses, starting from Accounting and Finance to Criminology to Theatre, Acting, and Performance BA (Hons). They offer more than 250 courses under undergraduate, postgraduate, and apprenticeship courses. 

Language of Instruction

The language of instruction followed in the university is mainly English. 

Academics at the University of Worcester

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service or UCAS is responsible for the candidate’s application management of the University of Worcester. Every potential candidate within the UK, EU, or even internationally will have to apply through UCAS. 

After the application is submitted, the candidates can keep track of them through the UCAS website. The application will be reviewed by the team of the University of Worcester, and they will decide upon whether to call the candidate for an interview, provide them conditional or unconditional offers, or reject their application. 

Sometimes the candidate is called for an interview before they are given the offer. After the acceptance of the offer, the candidate will be asked to visit the university, and following that, the university will call them to manage the accommodation requirements. 

Admission Cycle

The applications are accepted from the beginning of September each year, and the closing date is in the month of January. The courses can even be studied part-time. For entry into part-time courses, candidates can apply between the months of September and January. 

University of Worcester Admission Requirements

The basic University of Worcester admission requirements include that the candidate must be 18 years old. If the candidate is at the age of 17, when they begin their courses, then also they will be eligible. However, if they are 17, then their parents will have to agree to some extra safety protocols. 

Apart from that, there are some general entry requirements as well. They include; 

  • The candidate should possess a minimum of two GCE A level passes. 
  • BTEC Qualifications 
  • Completion of a relevant QAA recognized access diploma
  • OCR Nationals 
  • Achievement of the Welsh Baccalaureate 
  • Advanced GNQ if the candidate passed it at the merit level
  • The minimum point of 24 in the International Baccalaureate and the minimum point of 60% in the European Baccalaureate 

Acceptance Rates of the University of Worcester

The University of Worcester’s acceptance rate is quite high. As per the Edu ranking, they have an acceptance rate of 81%. Some of the common courses of the University include; Nursing, Psychology, Sports Science, etc. 

Credit Hours

For the credit hours, students need to have 60 credits with at least 45 at Level 3.

Financials at the University of Worcester

The University of Worcester fees are a reflection of the cost of the excellent education provided there. The reviewing of the tuition fee is done on an annual basis. For the students of the UK and EU, the tuition fees for a full-time honors undergraduate course is £9,250 (~INR 10 lakhs). If you are applying for a full-time diploma or foundation degree course, then the tuition fee will be £9,250 (~INR 10 lakhs) and £5,440 (~INR 6 lakhs) respectively. 

However, as mentioned above, the university also provides an option for part-time courses. If the UK and EU applicants are opting for a part-time honors degree, for BA (Hons), BSC (Hons), Integrated Masters, HND per 15 credits, then the fee is £1,156 (~INR 12,000). The charging of the fee is based on a pro-rata basis. 

The fee arrangement for the international students is quite different from the home and EU students. For a full-time honors undergraduate degree, the tuition fee is £13,400 (~INR 14).

For postgraduates, the annual standard fee for UK and EU students is £9,250 (~INR 10 lakhs) if they are enrolling for PGCE. The fee calculation for the part-time courses is done on a pro-rata basis. 

The University of Worcester provides accommodation for its students. For a standard accommodation level, the price per week is £137 (~INR 14,000). It varies as per the level of accommodation. The price includes gas, water, internet access, electricity, gym membership, and contents insurance. The rates are exclusively for self-catered accommodation.
