MArch Architecture at University of Portsmouth

We encourage you to apply even if you have little experience of space planning or building design. Our Architecture degree will enable you and your fellow students to build on your diverse experiences. Together, you’ll develop skills in the foundations of architecture: design, drawing, making, planning, communication and collaboration.

You’ll learn to use new and emerging technologies, and develop skills in drawing, model-making, design processes and project management. You’ll engage with the materials of our built and natural environments: stone, glass, iron, wood, green landscapes, brick, copper, steel and waterways.

Designing our spaces, buildings, cities and landscapes is a collaborative process across design practices that involves practical and intellectual complexity, creativity and innovation. Through interdisciplinary work-based learning, BA (Hons) Architecture at Bath Spa provides you with theoretical understanding and practical experience, and develops your interpersonal, collaborative and professional skills.

The award winning BEng Hons Architectural Engineering has been designed for innovative individuals with an interest in building services and renewable technologies.

The programme aims to meet the increasing demand for skilled graduates with the expertise and knowledge to deliver energy conscious and environmentally sustainable solutions for buildings.

Pioneering research shapes our teaching. Throughout the course you will explore a number of themes including energy, building services, engineering principles, sustainability and management.

Employability is embedded within the programme structure to ensure that what you study is relevant in a real-world context. The degree offers a route to professional status with excellent employment opportunities.

The BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology and Management course is based on a modular structure across two semesters and is available as a four year sandwich course (although students with the necessary industrial experience may be exempted from placement). The course is also available in a part-time mode of study which involves students taking the course over five years (there is no placement year), and attending and completing all modules alongside the full-time students. The course leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honors in Architectural Technology and Management. The DPP (Diploma in Professional Practice) is awarded on successful completion of an approved industrial placement year.

There is an Associate Bachelor exit award which is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the level 5 modules but do not wish to complete the full honours degree. Graduates with this award wishing to apply for Chartered Membership with CIAT can map their learning to the CIAT matrix and satisfy most of the knowledge unit requirements. Evidence of alternative experience will be required to complete the missing units.
