The University of Manchester in the UK is located towards the southern end of the city center in Manchester, encompassing Oxford Road and Sackville Street, the earlier homes of the Victoria University and UMIST respectively. The University of Manchester is a public research university known for its checkered history. Around 25 Nobel Prize winners have studied or worked at the institution while the atom was first split here by Ernest Rutherford. Alan Turing invented artificial intelligence here while the first stored-program computer in the world was made at te university. The university is known for its Square Kilometer Array, the biggest radio telescope in the world, and also the Jodrell Bank observatory with its Lovell Telescope.The University was founded in its current avatar in 2004 through the fusion of the UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) and the Victoria University of Manchester. Infrastructure

The University of Manchester is the biggest single-site university in the entire United Kingdom. It now encompasses the Sackville Street and Oxford road areas entirely. The main research areas include advanced materials, energy, cancer, biotechnology, and global inequalities along with energy. Extracurriculars & Diversity

The University of Manchester has one of the biggest volumes of international students throughout the UK. International students get a dedicated support team, right from their graduation application and even later. There is a Student Immigration Team along with other Support Services. 

There are numerous sporting activities available for students at the University of Manchester including two 50-meter swimming pools, fitness suites, outdoor pitches, indoor courts, 40+ Athletic Union sports clubs, the National Cycling Center, and Sportcity along with a regional tennis center, national squash center, and regional athletics center. 

Other facilities include laboratories, lecture theaters, studios, student support services, and 400+ societies for students. The University has its own media avenues including an FM radio station, newspaper, and television channel. Along with its own Student Union, there are cafes and eateries along with a Print Shop, museum, library and research institute, music and drama center, and more.
