This program develops the business and entrepreneurial skills and attributes you’ll need to commercialize on your creative and cultural practices and/or knowledge.

You’ll build on a historical and theoretical understanding of cultural and creative industries to create your own creative initiatives, whether they’re research-based, policy-based, practice-based, or any combination of the three.

• You will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement in a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), or research organization in the cultural and creative industries. You may have the opportunity to augment your learning by taking classes in specific skill areas (such as marketing), as you are likely to be working in skill-specific departments of these organizations.

• The program aims to integrate entrepreneurship within the development of creative practices. It takes a creative approach to the development of new businesses, and the infrastructure that supports them.

Our three-year Film and Media degree focuses on developing your practical skills in documentary film-making alongside an understanding of journalism practice. You’ll also explore media and cultural studies, so you graduate ready for your role in industry.

Your degree is led by our experienced academics and award-winning film-makers. You will develop a range of professional skills to prepare you for your future, such as: 

• documentary film-making skills
• writing and multimedia practice for journalism
• critical reflection and essay-writing skills
• online communication and media analysis

You will become a sophisticated, creative and confident documentary film-maker, able to contextualise your own film practice within media, journalism and creative industries.

This degree allows you to develop an advanced level of knowledge and skills in film-making. You’ll gain a deep understanding of the relationship between documentary practice, film theory and the film industry.

You’ll work on a range of individual and crew-based film projects, and develop sophisticated camera, sound, editing and storytelling skills.

Your studies are set in the context of world cinema and the international history of the cinematic documentary. You'll graduate with a portfolio of creative documentary and experimental non-fiction films.

You will learn from scholar film-makers in our state-of-the-art facilities and develop a range of professional skills to prepare you for your future.
