Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (MSc) at Concordia University

The Oxford MSc by Research in Materials is a master's level research degree programme, typically of two years duration. Research projects in this leading department are available in most branches of materials science, as well as some aspects of solid state physics and chemistry.

Our course is run by academics who work in the health sector as well as in higher education. Statisticians from the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) as well as those who have extensive experience in working with the National Health Service in Scotland, will provide lectures based around real-life problems and data from the health sciences.

The course is entirely delivered online and access to a Windows PC is required. The course is ideally suited to those working full-time or with other commitments. You can study and complete the modules when it’s most convenient for you – you don’t need to be online at specific times.

The course has been designed by academics who also work as statisticians in the public sector, who are experts in understanding real-life statistical problems, data, and relating theory to practice. 

Although the programme is focused on health, the skills set provided will also equip you with the necessary training to work as an applied statistician in other areas such as insurance, finance and commerce.

You can also study the MSc in Applied Statistics in Health Sciences full-time on campus.

Our MSc Nanoscience degree explores the frontiers of science on the nanoscale. It provides a strong grounding in basic nanoscience before progressing to advanced topics. The strongly interdisciplinary research in the physics of life sciences groups links the fundamental science to applications in chemistry, biology and medicine.

Taught classes on this Masters course have been developed from the many years of nanoscience research at the University in areas such as:

• nanoscale imaging
• nanoparticle fabrication and functionalisation
• chemical physics
• computational modelling of the nanoworld

The course will be of interest to physical science graduates looking to work in the field of nanoscience. It’s also suitable for those with an industrial background as a further training opportunity and a way of gaining insights into topics at the forefront of academic research.
