History of RMIT University

Established in June 1887 by Francis Ormond, RMIT University began its journey as a working men's college. The main campus is located in the older portion of Melbourne city and boasts of a great heritage value. Since its origin, the RMIT campus has been spread over 87 buildings and nations like Vietnam and Spain. 

In 1934, its name changed to Melbourne Technical College. Finally, in 1960, the institution was recognised as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
