The Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) in Philosophy is a two-year, full-time taught graduate degree, which is an intellectually demanding course requiring a background in philosophy, usually from undergraduate study.

Our one-year intercalated Physiology BSc will give you the opportunity to explore the field of physiology, learning from world-renowned experts in a range of research fields, including cardiovascular biology, endocrinology, human physiology and regenerative medicine. There is a strong emphasis on understanding the pathophysiology of disease processes such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Our Philosophy and Global Sustainable Development (GSD) degree allows you to apply your passion for Philosophy to answering the Big Questions of our time by studying it in combination with GSD.

The study of philosophy at Durham does not follow one particular school. The Department is unique in the UK in its wide-ranging expertise in anglo-american analytical philosophy and continental philosophy. Each of these has its own distinctive set of issues and approaches to resolving them. We also have special expertise in the philosophy of science, and social science, and the history of science and medicine. So at Durham, you will follow one of the widest-ranging philosophy degrees in the country.

Philosophy is a new subject for many students, so in your first year, you follow a range of introductory courses, introducing the fundamental philosophical subject areas.

Newcastle Philosophy is rare among UK universities as much of our curriculum is dedicated to modern European philosophy. The curriculum includes thinkers such as Descartes, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, de Beauvoir, Sartre, Kristeva, Derrida and Foucault.

You'll also have the opportunity to explore key debates in the history of Western philosophy, including those in Ancient Philosophy, the Enlightenment and beyond.

Each year you’ll complete an individual project, where you apply the philosophy you learn to a topic of your choice. You'll open your mind to new ways of thinking and create your own learning path.

On this degree you'll explore a range of fascinating and fundamental philosophical topics, with subjects as diverse as politics, ethics, and mathematics, and issues from the nature of the mind to the value of art. You'll also study thinkers from across philosophical traditions - including analytic, continental, pragmatist, and Chinese philosophy - as well as culturally important texts.

Thinking philosophically requires a distinctive combination of imagination and exact reasoning. You'll develop these skills by studying a wide variety of modules. Philosophy at Sheffield is highly flexible. There are no compulsory modules.

Lancaster’s joint German Studies and Philosophy degree is taught by the Department of Languages and Cultures in conjunction with the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion (PPR).

Your German Studies programme gives you the opportunity to acquire high-level language skills and gain a thorough understanding of the country’s historical, cultural, social and political background in a global context. In Philosophy, we will help you to cultivate your own critical perspective on philosophical problems and questions, and develop a range of methods for analysing, critically engaging with, and discussing such problems.

Your first year comprises an exploration of the German language and its cultural context as well as an introduction to some of the central problems in philosophy and the theories produced in response to them. Alongside this, you will study a minor subject that complements your degree.

“Philosophy” means the love of wisdom: it is the search for truth and understanding, whether about ourselves, society, the world or reality itself. It is a wide-ranging academic discipline, incorporating the study of ethics and morality, politics, human nature, knowledge and the universe. The BA Philosophy programme at Swansea introduces you to major philosophical theories and debates across different traditions and cultures. It will equip you with the ability to reflect on questions of fundamental importance (“How should we live our lives?”; “What is a just society like?”; “How can we know what exists?”); to think creatively and logically; and to debate issues in a clear and persuasive manner. An important focus of the Philosophy programme at Swansea is on applying philosophy to practical, contemporary problems. For example, what is the impact of technology on well-being and what it means to be human? How should forms of offensive or hateful speech be regulated? Thus, the study of philosophy is about both understanding the world and working out how to change it for the better.

You investigate how thought and literature are shaped by culture in a wide variety of historical and political contexts. At Sussex, you follow your own interests, choosing from a broad range of topics.
