This is a specialised and unique programme with a 12-month placement in Westminster where you'll work for a Member of Parliament or a peer, giving you in-depth exposure to British parliamentary procedures and behaviours.

As a hands-on law degree offering you an in-depth understanding of law and the political system, you'll learn to think like a lawyer, and apply your knowledge of legal and political science to social problems and challenges.

Studying law will not only give you the opportunity to qualify as a solicitor or barrister: it will also help you develop a diverse set of skills which you will be able to apply in many different situations. You will learn to assimilate and analyse complex information, construct arguments, write with precision and clarity and think on your feet.

The Oxford Law degree aims to develop all these skills, but its particular strength is in teaching you to think for yourself. Students are expected to read a good deal, mostly from primary sources, and to develop views not simply about what the law is, but also about why it is so, whether it should be so, and how it might be different.

There are two Law courses at Oxford: Course I is a three-year course; Course II is a four-year course which follows the same syllabus, but with a third year abroad at a university in France, Germany, Italy, or Spain (studying French, German, Italian, or Spanish law), or the Netherlands (studying European and International law). Students on Course II (Law with Law Studies in Europe) gain additional skills through exposure to different legal systems and the different approaches to teaching practised by our European partner institutions.

At Warwick Law School, we pioneered an approach to the study of law that looks at legal rules 'in context' to examine their social, political and economic effects.

Whether you have prior study in a law discipline or in a different subject area, this course allows you to demonstrate your current graduate attributes and complete a degree programme that will prepare you for a career in law. You will cover the core topics in law, whilst having an interdisciplinary approach to the subject which means you will explore the social, political and historical influences in legislation.

Understanding the key principles in English and EU law will be the foundation of your course and you will be encouraged to research, reflect upon and critically analyse legal problems. This will enable you to work confidently on your own and to showcase your legal expertise, as well as work in collaboration with key stakeholders.

The Cardiff Met LLB (Hons) Law degree is a qualifying law degree (QLD) that combines doctrinal learning with applied skills training. Our QLD degree satisfies the academic stage of professional training for those who want to become solicitors or barristers. 3 years or 4 years if undertaking foundation year

The Foundation Year in Law forms part of an integrated four-year degree programme, and is designed for students who do not currently meet the admissions criteria for direct entry onto a degree course in subjects including relevant courses.

This Law course will allow you to explore areas including business, psychology and computing, alongside giving you the skills, knowledge and confidence to progress to continue onto a Degree course and have the opportunity to meet your aspirations.

This course will be taught over three days per week to allow students to manage study around other work and family commitments.

Practical experience is important in this degree, with a range of opportunities available. You may be able to take part in our Law Clinic which provides real-world experience of giving free legal advice to members of the local community. Our Miscarriages of Justice Project gives the chance to work on real criminal cases alongside practising lawyers as they support prisoners who maintain their innocence and have exhausted their appeal rights. The Street Law project provides experience in schools and organisations, advising and supporting them on specific areas of law.

We offer a wide range of diverse opportunities and try to ensure that all students can access the opportunities that interest them, however please note that places are limited on some schemes and modules.

You’ll gain a solid grounding in English law as well as exploring international, European and Canadian law. You can choose one language from Arabic, British Sign Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese or Spanish.

You also cover:

• how the law regulates the relationship between the individual and the state
• how the law responds to dealings between individuals and groups
• theoretical and practical aspects of law.

You’re taught by research-active faculty, and join a vibrant community with an active student law body. Through the Sussex Law Clinics, you can gain valuable work experience of the law in action before you graduate.

We also have links with leading law firms that sponsor our student competitions in national and international mooting, criminal advocacy, client interviewing, negotiation, mediation and legal debating.
