Who is an IG? The full form of IG is Inspector General.

The police department official in charge of conducting investigations and inspections is the inspector general.

The Inspector-General is expected to carry out all of the national responsibilities outlined in the law and has independent authority over the police force. Sanjay Singh is the Indian police force's current Inspector General. After some changes to the law, the Inspector General is now third in line behind the DGP and Additional DGP, having formerly held the top status in the police force.

India's coast guards are tasked with protecting both other coast guards and the coast itself. They are also given the Inspector General title and position. The President of the nation receives direct reports from the Inspector-General.

Roles and Responsibilities of Inspector General

  • An inspector general's job in the Indian police force is crucial. It is the IG's responsibility to carry out investigations and inspections.
  • In addition, the IG is in charge of carrying out impartial, independent audits on DHS-related operations and programs.
  • In addition to ensuring the efficacy of DHS operations and programs, the responsibility of Inspector General (IG) encompasses the promotion of economy and efficiency.
  • The Inspector General's duties also include identifying and stopping fraud, abuse, and waste.
  • Finally, part of the Inspector General's job description is to report to the Secretary on all developments and issues pertaining to DHS operations and programs and to offer appropriate remedies for those issues.

Typically, the Senate appoints the Inspector General after the President nominates them. It is critical to keep in mind that the Inspector General needs to be impartial toward all political parties. The selection process should be limited to candidates who possess the highest levels of honesty and competence in a variety of fields, including public administration, law, auditing, accounting, financial analysis, and management analysis.
