EWS stands for Economically Weaker Section. EWS falls under the unreserved category. This group is classified as unreserved in India, with an annual family earnings of less than eight lakh rupees. This category excludes castes like ST/SC/OBC, who already benefit from quotas.

  • There is a 10% reservation for the EWS category.

  • The Union Council of India has authorized a 10% quota in education and employment.
  • EWS category people can enjoy 10% reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. 
  • You must fall into the general group to benefit from the 10% reservation.  
  • You can only be classified as economically weaker if your annual household income is at most 8 lakh rupees (EWS).
  • If your family has agricultural land, it must be at least five acres.
  • The space must be less than 1000 square feet if you or your family possess a flat.
  • Your family should not possess a residential site measuring 100 square yards or more in designated communities.
  • You can apply for an EWS certificate by going to the Tehsildar's office and submitting the application form with the requisite papers.
  • The EWS certificate requires the following documents: an Aadhaar card, PAN card, income document, bank record, proof of residence, affidavit, etc. 
  • The 10% reserve quota might help to alleviate educational challenges caused by a lack of financial backing.
