DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, which mainly transmits hereditary code or genes from parents to their progeny. It possesses a distinct molecular structure. Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells contain it. Swiss researcher Johannes Friedrich Miescher discovered the DNA.
