The full form of the CPT is the Common Proficiency Test. This CA entry-level test administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants is required for entry into prestigious CA programs nationwide.

  • Chartered Accountancy admissions require passing the Common Proficiency Test, or CPT. 
  • 10th-pass students can register for CPT. Even a B.Com., M.Com., ICWA or MBA candidates are also required to pass the CPT.
  • According to ICFAI's recently revised guidelines, the CPT test has become the CA foundation test.
  • It is possible for anyone to register for the ICFAI CPT exam after completing Class X and to take the exam after passing Class XII. 
  • CPT is now a combination of subjective and objective papers, which were once solely objective.
  • To become a Chartered Accountant (CA), one must pass the Common Proficiency Test. It assesses candidates' basic knowledge of accounting fundamentals, mercantile law, general economics, and quantitative aptitude.
  • CPT examinations are held twice yearly on Sundays, in June and December. Exam forms are generally available in April for the June and October for the December examinations. A regional or branch office of the institute sells it across the country.
  • Question papers and booklets are available in English or Hindi, while answer sheets are only in English. 
  • Each student receives a result card after the CPT exam results are declared. CPT-pass students still need to receive a pass certificate.
  • Passing with distinction is defined as achieving 70% or more marks. Candidates achieving at least 60% marks are included in the merit list and awarded a merit certificate.
