Eligibility Criteria for NID Entrance Exam

Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Design (BDes)

  • To qualify for admission to Bachelor of Design (BDes) courses, candidates should have completed or will be undertaking their higher secondary (10+2) examinations in the academic year 2024. This applies to candidates from any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.), and they must be from a recognized education board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE, or equivalent.
  • The upper age limit for BDes courses is 20 years, as of July 1, 2024. However, candidates applying under the Overseas category do not have an age limit.
  • Specifically, candidates from General, General-EWS, and OBC-NCL categories should be born on or after July 1, 2004, for BDes. Those from SC, ST, and PwD categories must be born on or after July 1, 2002.
  • Additionally, candidates are required to have appeared for the National Entrance Test (NET) or Design Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by NID.

Eligibility Criteria for Master of Design (MDes)

For admission to the Master of Design (MDes) program at the National Institute of Design (NID) for the academic year 2024-25, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of a minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in any specialization after the 12th level from a recognized university or institute in India or abroad.
  • The maximum age limit for MDes applicants is 30 years old as of July 1, 2024. Notably, candidates in the Overseas category are exempt from any age restrictions.
  • Candidates in the General, General-EWS, and OBC-NCL categories should be born on or after July 1, 1994. Meanwhile, those in the SC, ST, and PwD categories must have a birth date on or after July 1, 1992.
  • Successful completion of the National Entrance Test (NET) or Design Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by NID is a prerequisite for all applicants.
