Infrastructure

The university has its campus near the Edinburgh City Centre (six minutes via train) and East Lothian while offering accommodation, food joints, grounds, sports centres and more. The Students Union is also housed within the campus. The campus village opened its doors in 2007 for students. The university offers a cutting-edge centre for resource learning along with other facilities including indoor sports hubs, catering outlets, shops and more.

The University is known for its research prowess, offering a research and knowledge exchange programme for students and researchers. There are numerous research centres and institutes and knowledge exchange centres along with the dedicated QMU Research facility and other postgraduate research facilities.

Academic

The admission process starts in mid-September via UCAS with the deadline as 26th January. The Extra opening will be on 25th February and 4th July will be the closing window.

The Queen Margaret University admission process involves the following:

1. Undergraduate applicants will apply via UCAS.

2. Postgraduate applicants will apply directly at the university.

The Queen Margaret University admission requirements include the following:

1. Undergraduate aspirants may apply with at least 75% in their respective Class XII board examinations.

2. Postgraduate aspirants require a bachelor’s course from a recognized university.

3. A recent English language qualification is required.

4. English language proficiency scores are also required (IELTS 6-6.5 or equivalent).

5. Other accepted tests include Trinity, CAE, PTE Academic, CPE, TOEFL iBT and others.

The Queen Margaret University acceptance rate is 40-50%. There are several undergraduate, research and postgraduate courses along with continued professional development. Popular courses include business management, drama, education studies, film and media, nursing, nutrition, paramedic science, psychology and sociology, radiography, accounting and more.

Extra-curriculars and student diversity

The institution has more than 5,000 students representing 80+ countries worldwide. The university has its own Students’ Union which offers various activities and experiences round the year. There are several sporting facilities and clubs/societies, covering everything from anime and theatre to dance, rugby, football, badminton and more. Students can also create their own clubs or societies on campus while tapping into available volunteering opportunities as well. The union runs the Maggie’s Bar & Café as well for students.

Career/Professional

The University has its own dedicated Careers and Employability service, offering guidance and support with student careers. Students get help with volunteering opportunities, work experience options and available jobs while studying and the university’s connections with employers, manifests through the unique employer mentoring program. Students also get assistance with their applications and resumes while getting support with their careers even after graduating.

Employers are closely linked to the university which offers recruitment solutions to them across its entire spectrum of graduates and current students along with the right platform for advertising jobs, career and employment fairs, events, Employer Mentoring Programme and even sponsorship opportunities. Other services include guidance, coaching, CV Clinics, drop-in sessions, workshops and voluntary/part-time work for students while studying. Student Central is the place to find innumerable advertised listings and other opportunities. Santander Universities is a partner at QMU, offering various internships and other options to students. The QMU Annual Recruitment Fair is a major event on the annual calendar, helping students get recruited into seasonal, part-time and voluntary employment positions.

There are also paid openings for students to help with career activities at the university and other departments. The team also helps those who are starting their own ventures.
