As its name suggests, the degree focuses on specific areas key to financial services and, indeed, to finance generally. You can choose to study a language in Years 2-4 of this degree. GCU offers modules in French, German, Italian and Spanish from beginners to professional level.

The finance industry continues to evolve at a dizzying pace, but SU is up to date with the latest in the field and will keep your skills fresh. Our finance major provides you with a broad background in corporate finance, international finance, investments and financial markets/institutions. It prepares you for a career in corporate treasury functions and financial service firms such as commercial and investment banks, securities firms, money management firms, insurance companies, real estate companies and financial planning organizations.

During their senior year, SU students have an opportunity to complete an internship at a variety of business, government or nonprofit organizations. Students in this major may also take part in the Practicum in Portfolio Management, an innovative program designed around a student-managed investment fund, managing a portion of the University endowment. Insurance is a global industry that employs more than 2.3 million people in the United States alone. Jobs are available in risk management and insurance (RMI). In recent years the number of graduates from the nation’s RMI programs met only 10-15 percent of the industry’s needs.

The Risk Management and Insurance program prepares students for a range of careers in a dynamic and growing industry, including such jobs as risk manager, underwriting, claims, loss prevention, and insurance agent. Students receive a diverse business education, complemented with a risk management and insurance concentration that includes flexibility for students to create their own area of emphasis. Areas of study include: risk management, personal and commercial insurance, marketing, sales, insurance operations, law, and employee benefits. Students will also be able to obtain practical experiences and networking by completing an internship. Students earn exam waivers toward the coveted Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, and may also obtain their property and casualty producers license.

The Insurance and Risk Management major provides students with basic competency in the functional areas of insurance and risk management. The program provides students with an educational foundation that is needed to prepare for professional exams and national licenses in individual and commercial insurance, and risk management. This major combines the applications of analytical skills to the challenges in the commercial insurance industry. This program leads to careers in business, insurance, and risk management.

The Bachelor of Science in Risk Management & Insurance program at Ohio Dominican University provides students with in-depth knowledge of decision-making processes and insurance entities in order to facilitate effective assessment and management of personal and organizational risks.
