This four-year specialist degree will give you a professional qualification to teach in secondary schools in the area of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), along with a second teaching area of specialisation.

Our Health and Physical Education program, established in 1939, is considered one of the best in Australia. If you have a passion for health, sport and the science of movement, and working with young people, this is the perfect course for you.

In all four years, you will have professional experience placements in secondary schools, totalling 80 days. This begins in your first year of the course and the amount of responsibility and duration of the placements progressively increases until the final placement, when you will be competent to teach under minimal supervision.

The Bachelor of Education (Honours) course will prepare you for a career as a skilled, critical and effective teacher and educator in the early childhood, primary and secondary sectors, or a combination of these.

You will build a high level of expertise in one of seven specialisations:

• Early childhood and primary education
• Primary education (single degree and double degree course)
• Primary and secondary education
• Primary and secondary health and physical education
• Primary and secondary inclusive and special education
• Secondary health and physical education
• Secondary education (double degree only).

The course will prepare you for teaching in an increasingly diverse, complex and changing world. You will engage with contemporary ideas and practices and learn how to foster the learning of children and young people with varied needs. This will enable you to develop your students' creative, intellectual, physical, personal and social capabilities.

While learning to navigate the complex nature of teaching, you will develop the specific professional knowledge and teaching skills needed to engage students of various ages and developmental stages with particular school subjects. Depending upon your specialisation, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to teach in learning areas such as the arts and music, English, mathematics, humanities, physical education, health and wellbeing, science, and digital technologies. Professional experience offered throughout the course in urban, rural, remote or international locations and education settings, will build your knowledge of teaching and learning. As a result, you will become a thoughtful, effective and inclusive educator, able to design learning experiences that ensure that your future students have the right balance of challenge and support.

The Bachelor of Education (Honours) prepares you for the global workforce. You will have a strong foundation for decision making about your practice and you will be in a position to establish yourself as an educational leader of the future.

The Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program draws on the expertise of faculty based in several departments, enabling students to develop a feminist perspective on traditional disciplines and to cross disciplinary boundaries in order to explore experiences nationally and globally. Students examine the ways that gender intersects with other systems of domination, think critically about ways to challenge violence and injustice, and work together to envision a more just and humane world.

In our practicum course, students gain experience working with organizations that serve or mobilize women. In our senior seminar, they pursue independent research in topics of their own choosing. An interdisciplinary course, Women: Images and Realities, provides the introduction to the program.

If you love the field of education but don’t necessarily want to be a classroom teacher, this major could be the solution. You’ll get the firm foundation of educational theory and practice that you’ll need in a learning-centered career. Students in this program don’t earn a license to teach, but they still can be involved in education in a wide variety of job fields.

The B.S.Ed in Elementary Education leads to teacher licensure with an Elementary (grades 1-6) endorsement. Graduates are prepared to teach reading, writing, science, mathematics, social studies, critical thinking skills, and problem solving strategies to elementary school students in self-contained classrooms.

The School of Education offers four degree programs: the Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Bilingual/English as a Second Language Education, the Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Elementary Education (with options in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education), the Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Middle Level Education, and the Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Special Education. The primary purpose of the Elementary, Early Childhood, Middle Level Education, and Special Education programs is to prepare candidates to become educational practitioners who engage in informed action that is grounded in knowledge and reflection, who are deeply committed to the highest standards of professional practice, who are able to adapt to emerging social, economic, and cultural landscapes, who are skilled in the use of technological tools that promote teaching and learning, and who are committed to empowering all learners. The programs provide students with a foundation of general studies, a scope and sequence of carefully designed professional courses emphasizing exploratory, experiential, student-centered teaching and learning, and extensive experiences observing and working with children in a variety of classroom settings. Field experiences begin early in each program and gradually increase through the senior year, culminating in student teaching.

Secondary education is a major in which University students learn to teach middle and high school students in specific subject areas. Students are prepared for state licensure exams that they must pass to earn teaching positions. Secondary education programs include: biology, chemistry, citizenship with history or political science, communication, English, French, general science, German, Latin, mathematics, physics and Spanish.

This teacher education program addresses educational issues pertinent to public and First Nations schools settings where Aboriginal children attend school. You’ll develop the skills and academic knowledge expected of beginning educators, complete a specialization in Indigenous Education, and prepare to teach at the elementary, middle, or secondary school level.

Education Studies is a cross-disciplinary field that considers learning, teaching, and schooling as lenses through which to understand social processes and contexts. This major conceptualizes education broadly, recognizing that the study of education can serve a variety of purposes, apply to diverse demographic groups, and be situated within a range of institutional and social contexts.

As a course of study, Education Studies can offer students the chance to explore topics such as human development, education policy, the history of schooling, educational research methodology, learning theory, the sociology of education, and urban education, among others. The major can prepare students for a wide assortment of jobs in schools and afterschool programs, non-profit institutions, international development agencies, cultural institutions, and government. It can also serve as a solid foundation for advanced graduate work in education, sociology, anthropology, psychology, history, political science, or international studies.

The Utah Tech University Physical Sciences department offers a variety of courses in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Geography, and Physics that allow students to better understand and appreciate the natural world and our place in it. Many of these courses fulfill the General Education Physical Science requirement for all students. Coursework and academic degrees offered in the Physical Sciences also fulfills prerequisites and requirements for students planning to pursue careers in natural sciences, chemistry, physics, engineering, environmental sciences, earth sciences, and medical and health sciences.

Through liberal arts core courses, you will gain content knowledge in math, science, children’s literature, and history. Education courses focus on curriculum theory and design, special education, instructional technology, and key concepts and thinkers in the field.

This concentration does not lead to Massachusetts licensure, so MTEL preparation is not a part of the curriculum. As such, your field experience will culminate in a semester-long internship in a setting of your choosing, instead of student teaching. You will also complete internships during your freshman and sophomore years that allow you to build a resume and explore your interests. The M.Ed in Educational Leadership addresses the Georgia Educational Leadership Standards using personalized and authentic learning experiences in the school setting.  The primary candidate is a certified classroom teacher who wishes to begin a career in educational administration. The program may be successfully completed in one academic year of three semesters, each having two six-hour credit courses beginning in the fall of each year. All course work is available online to support the school-based learning experiences. School partner mentors and university professors support and facilitate the candidate’s work.  A residency requirement of 250 clock hours integrated in the coursework helps the candidate address experiences across all standards.  Successful completion of the program enables the candidate to be recommended for Tier I certification with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

The University of Mount Union’s Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and license prepares students to work with children from grades K-12. Students in our CAEP and NASPE accredited undergraduate physical education major program benefit from a winning combination of textbook learning in top-notch facilities and extensive “real-world” teaching experiences that will position you for a successful and rewarding teaching career. From principles of health to fitness and leisure activities to motor and developmental learning, you will explore a variety of courses as a physical education major. You will also study human movement and exercise, along with anatomy and physiology, building skills to prepare you for a field in physical education.
